    Latest Brugler Feeder Cattle Report

    -More Brugler Reports

Live Cattle futures were up on the first two contracts and down on the rest of the year contracts. Wholesale prices have been rising this week and ended higher today. Choice beef is up $0.88 and Select is up $1.37. Cattle trade has been at a standstill in all major feeding regions. Last week’s sales were $123 to $124 in the live and $196 to $198 in the dresses. China and Canada signed agreements to boost bilateral trade today. One of the agreements will allow Canadian beef exports after a 9 year ban, with the restriction for growth enhancers remaining, to resume. The ban implemented as a result of BSE cases was actually lifted in 2010 but no beef business has taken place because of the growth hormone used in beef production. Southern Plains feedlots are offering cattle for $125 to $126 but no packer bids have been reported and trading was at a standstill basically yesterday. Feeder cattle remain in strong demand but supplies are dwindling awaiting arrival of the fall calves.
